Burgundy snails (Helix pomatia) at Jeløya, Norway

I recently discovered a large number of Burgundy snails (Helix pomatia) while exploring Moss, Norway. These snails are not commonly seen in Norway, making this find particularly interesting.

Known by various names such as Roman snails, edible snails, and Vinbergsnegl (Norwegian), their shells are around 3-5 cm in size and can grow up to 10 cm long. In France, they are a delicacy called “escargot,” typically served with garlic butter and herbs to highlight their flavor. Enjoy!
